Txakoli, Bodega Aizpurua 2018
The wines from Txakoli are nothing new (Aizpurua is the oldest producer in the region, founded in 1834) but they are more than a little unusual in this country, the vast majority being consumed in the tapas bars of San Sebastian and Bilbao. At Aizpurua, Jon Oliden's Hondarabbi Zuri vines sit on the dramatic windswept coastline of Getaria, overlooking the Atlantic, making wines in the classic Txakoli style, bone-dry and tangy but with vibrant apple/citrus fruit, and with a distinctive prickle. A fantastic (quite low alcohol) aperitif, especially if you want to impress any wine-loving guests.
