'Mono' Tempranillo, Bodegas Barreda 2021

The Barreda family have been winemakers in Corral de Almaguer (110km south-east of Madrid) since the 18th Century, much longer than their modern labels might suggest. The vineyards are planted quite high at over 700m and the nearby Cuenca mountains help to moderate the heat (grapes are also harvested at night). Their red is 100% Tempranillo from 25 year old vines (10% aged for six months in old oak barrels) with lots of soft dark fruit and a touch of warm spice.
