Cesanese 'Rubillo', Principe Pallavicini 2022

  • £15.50

The historic Pallavicini family own a splendid Palazzo on the Quirinal Hill in Rome as well as the Tenuta di Colonna in Castelli Romana southeast of Rome, with 60 hectares of vineyards mostly on fertile volcanic soils. The winery is built over an ancient Roman cistern and aqueduct but winemaker Marco Cerqua makes these otherwise traditional wines in a vibrant, modern style. The Cesanese is softly scented with ripe red fruits and warm spice, then juicy and rounded but with refreshing cranberry-like tartness on the finish.
