Verdejo 'Calandria', Bodegas Belote 2017

This estate was created in 2012 by Alberto Viejo to revive a cellar that first made wine in 1947. There are just 2.5 hectares of vineyards, in Mayorga de Campos in the south-east of Tierra de Leon. While the best-known examples of Verdejo tend to come from the DO of Rueda slightly further south, it is also widely grown in Tierra de Leon. Belote's delicious example is aromatic and expressive, full of soft, rounded stone fruit with underlying citrus freshness and a touch of minerality.
