Chardonnay, Hartenberg Estate 2017
The Hartenberg estate dates back to the late 17th Century with the current winery based in the Bottelary Hills and highly respected winemaker Carl Schultz at the helm. The region's Mediterranean climate, cooled by ocean breezes, is ideally suited to making ripe but elegant Chardonnay, grapes being hand-harvested early in the morning to retain freshness. The wine is fermented on the lees before being aged for 11 months in French oak barrels (roughly a third new), combining lively citrus and stone fruit fruit with subtle toasted oak, vanilla and savoury notes.
