Susumaniello 'Verso Sud', I Pastini 2020

The Susumaniello grape variety is native to the Brinidisi region and means 'little donkey' in Puglian dialect, supposedly a nod either to its high-yielding 'work-horse' qualities or its difficulty to manage in the vineyard. Either way, it has considerable character, full of sweet, dark, ripe fruit with a slightly smoky, earthy and even feral quality, the ideal upmarket barbecue red.
