Vacqueyras, Domaine de la Charbonniere 2019

This top-notch domaine, acquired by Eugene Maret in 1912, is based principally in Chateauneuf-du-Pape but also has 4.5 hectares of vines in Vacqueyras. Michel Maret has in recent years handed over the running of the estate to his two highly capable daughters, with Veronique now the winemaker and Caroline in charge of administration. The Charbonniere wines are traditionally made, rich and succulent and the Vacqueyras is no exception: structured and concentrated with plenty of smoky but ripe black fruits and notes of licorice and dried herbs. A truly expressive wine.
