'The Idiot' Shiraz, Philip Shaw 2018

Philip Shaw is one of Australia's most talented winemakers, making wines in cooler-climate style at his estate in Orange in New South Wales. Grapes for his Shiraz are grown at 900m altitude at his 47 hectare Koomooloo vineyard, resulting in a fresh, refined expression of this grape variety. This is gently scented with soft, dark berry fruit and an earthy, peppery finish, much closer to a Northern Rhone Syrah than a more typically Australian Shiraz from somewhere like the Barossa Valley.
